My Christmas tree

I set my alarm for 5am this morning to get up in time to watch the lunar eclipse. I almost never set an alarm, so I thought I’d choose a new one (Robot is my new favorite tone btw). I’m not a big fan of waking up when it’s still dark, so I peeked out the window to be sure the moon was visible before I actually got out of bed. The sky was clear, dark and the moon was already half eclipsed. I jumped out of bed, threw on sweatpants & a puffer and ran outside with my tripod, my Canon, and Buddy. One minor problem, I misplaced the tripod base that connects to the bottom of my camera. I have no idea where it is, the last time I saw it was in Paris in May of last year. Oh well. The eclipse itself was beautiful enough to keep as a memory, even if I didn’t have photographic evidence that I saw it first-hand. So I ran back inside to put away my camera & tripod, and ran back outside. Buddy and I walked down a few houses to find a spot without a streetlamp to get a good view. The eclipse seemed to be moving so fast when I remembered I had my iPhone in my pocket. I managed to get one halfway decent shot at about 5:50 when the moon was almost fully eclipsed.

Obviously this picture doesn’t do it justice, but you get the idea. It was absolutely stunning, totally worth getting up early to see. By the time the moon was fully eclipsed the sun was starting to rise. As it got lighter the moon seemed to blend in with the sky.

Once the sun was up I got back in bed, turned on my TV and fell asleep watching Lars and the Real Girl. If I’m asleep then I’m usually dreaming, so of course Ryan Gosling made an appearance. I dreamt Collette & I were driving through the city when a tall man ran up to our car, threw in a big paper bag filled with hundred dollar bills and casino chips. He told Collette to jump in the back, he got in the driver’s seat, and as he drove away he ripped off his fake mustache.

He introduced himself as Peter Duncan. Collette & I went with it, and guessed he was just in character. We all came back to my house, split up the money (which Peter claimed he stole from an illegal gambling ring), and went out with our friends. While we were out he whispered in my ear and told me his name was really Ryan. I looked at him, smiled and said “I know”. Then he kissed me and said “you’re the one.”

What a perfect start to my Saturday.
